Weaving selected for Emerging Contemporaries exhibition

Kirrily’s graduating work from her Bachelor of Design (majoring in textiles) has been selected for the prestigious Emerging Contemporaries exhibition in Canberra.

Emerging Contemporaries features the works of emerging makers and designers and plays a pivotal role in supporting and transitioning artists into professional practice.

The show reflects current trends in a post-pandemic world, evidenced by a return to connection, tactility, communication and co-creation. The artists selected for this show “utilise a variety of strategies, techniques and craftsmanship to grapple with issues both timeless and timely,” while in Kirrily’s work “the act of collective making decanters authorship, highlights ingenuity and celebrates community” (Jeffery Sarmiento).
