Weave with Me

This project explores the potential of public basket weaving to create a space for serendipitous social interactions. It sets up a 60 minute period of basket-weaving in a public park to see what happens when passers-by are invited to engage in the work in three ways:

-       Learn to weave their own basket

-       Use the baskets as offering bowls to Mother Earth

-       Rearrange the baskets into their own installations.

The project is especially popular among kids and young adults, and ultimately shows that ‘making art’ in public places creates an opportunity for unexpected and joyful encounters - with some kids inspired to take up basket weaving, creating ongoing effects that ripple into the unknown.
